Going for Gold! Harrison College wins Specialist College of The Year for the 2nd Year Running
Founded in 2019, Harrison College is a Post 16 education provider for students with additional needs. The Doncaster based college was inspired by the lack of support that students receive after secondary education, particularly those with conditions such as autism. In contrast to large mainstream colleges, Harrison College offer small year groups of 35 – 40 students to ensure that young people are not over awed by their environment, whilst offering greater access to 1 -1 support from dedicated staff. The institutions mission is to prepare students for employment by building vital skills such as teamwork and communication alongside literacy, numeracy and personal financial management.
“Harrison College offers a challenging yet supportive environment for its students enabling them to exceed expectations and achieve goals.”
The judges were deeply impressed by the work opportunities students gain access to during their studies. Harrison College has forged quality links with businesses in the region and students are able to enjoy supported internships during their 2 year study programme. In these internships, students gain skills that are valuable to employers, develop confidence in their abilities, improve their independence and begin building a CV. Harrison College is dedicated to helping students gain paid employment once their studies are completed and its high level of individualised support nurtures these opportunities.
